Indian Maritime University has been established as a Central University by the Government of India under an Act of Parliament, namely, the Indian Maritime University Act 2008.

The Indian Maritime University, being the first of its kind in the country will cater to the educational requirement of the maritime fraternity. It is a teaching and affiliating University which will offer degree, post graduate degree and research programmes in all disciplines of maritime sector.

Central University of Tamilnadu , Thanjavur

 

The Central University of Tamil Nadu was established by an Act of Parliament (no 25 of 2009, 20/03.2009). The University is located at Tiruvarur, headquarters of the District in the heart of the great Chola Empire. Preliminary work on establishing the University has resulted in the tentative identification of about 500 acres of land in two revenue villages (see annexure and map). The Government of Tamil Nadu has assured that a multi-storey building (GF plus three floors) measuring about 55000 plus square feet will be made available for a temporary campus for launching academic programmes and planning for campus development in due course (details of the building annexed). Continuous interaction with the administration both at the district and state level indicates substantial movement in issuance of a formal order in this regard.

Central University of Tamilnadu offers Five Integrated M.Sc. Programmes in Life Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry & Economics and 2 years PG Programmes in M.A. (English), M.A. (Classical Tamil), M.Sc. (Financial Economics), M.Sc. (General Economics).

Thiruvallauvar University was set up in 2002 under University Act, 2002. The university is situated at Vellore Fort. It offers various under graduate & postgraduate courses in Economics , Zoology, Chemistry , Physical Education.
Thiruvalluvar University is located in Vellore Fort, which is one of the monuments of the Vellore city and a perfect specimen of military architecture in South India. The circumference of the fort is 2600 meters.

Institute of Mathematical Sciences (IMSc) was established in 1962 by Alladi Ramakrishnan in Chennai . IMSc offers Ph.D degree in mathematics.
Institute of Mathematical Sciences - IMSc has an active graduate research program to which a select group of students are admitted every year to work towards a Ph.D. degree. IMSc hosts a large number of scientists at the post-doctoral level and supports a vibrant Visiting Scientist Scheme. More information is available under Academic Programmes at IMSc.

IMSc has located in South Chennai, It has centrally air-conditioned office and lecture-hall complex houses academic members of IMSc. A 200 seat auditorium, the Ramanujan auditorium, is used for large scientific meetings while smaller lecture halls and classrooms accomodate more modest gatherings. Most public areas in the Institute, including seminar and discussion rooms, lounges and the auditorium are Wi-Fi enabled.

Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University was established in 2004 under Act of the Government of Tamil Nadu. It  is unique and the first of its kind in India as an affiliatory University, exclusively for Physical Education and Sports.

Institute of Technology, Madras -IIT- Madras was established in 1959. IIT Madras is ISO 9001 certified institute.It has fifteen academic departments and a few advanced research centres in various disciplines of engineering and pure sciences, with nearly 100 laboratories organised in a unique pattern of functioning.
