    Established in 1982, and gradually blossoming into an Institution of great eminence, Bharathidasan University is very much like the Tiruchirappalli region itself: like the surrounding cities, it is a large, multicultural community with a great number of opportunities and resources. The Mission and Vision of our University is to contribute to Society through the pursuit of knowledge and patronage of quality education and thereby promoting and ensuring excellence in Higher Education. As an integral part of this endeavor, the University has also plans to disseminate knowledge and encourage learning in the districts of jurisdiction and thus make a significant contribution towards social and economic growth.

Services:

Central Workshop

            The Central Workshop, a centralized instrumentation maintenance and fabricational laboratory was established along with the Science Departments of the then Autonomous Post Graduate Centre of the University of Madras in 1978, under the Vth five Year Plan. It was established with a grant of Rs. 1.5 lakhs from the University Grants Commission The workshop was housed at the Department of Physics of the then Post Graduate Centre. Consequent to the creation of the Bharathidasan University, it was moved to the Palkalaiperur Campus on 11-12-87 in a separate building. The present Workshop Consists of

1.One Machine Shop Laboratory
2.One Glass Blowing Laboratory

The Workshop has been convened by one of the Professors of the Science departments.


Health Centre

      The University Health Centre was established in 1993, with partial financial support from UGC. It has a Full Time Medical Officer, an attender and a sanitary worker. The Medical officer is staying in the staff quarters inside the University premises, so that the Medical officer can render health care to those residents and hostel students needing care at the odd hours and to meet emergencies. The average number of patients per day is around 40 including some poor villagers around the campus.

Buildings & Equipment

The Health Centre building has a waiting room, a four beded ward, a consulting room and a toilet. The Plinth area of the building is 66.99 M2.

The equipment facilities include the following:

Oxygen Cylinder
Infra-red lamp
ECG Machine
Glocometer
Nebulizer
IFT-Instrument(TENSE)

Services

Periodic health check-up to the Staff and Students conducted from time to time
Almost a full time one and also renders medical care to emergencies, as the Doctor is a resident of the Campus
Those who need hospitalisation are admitted in the University Dispensary itself; those who require specialised treatment are referred to the respective hospitals and followed up
Blood grouping is done to all university employees and students and voluntary blood donors are identified, registered and are used in emergencies
A health fund scheme is functioning which provides financial help for treatment of major diseases viz

Renal Transplantation
Lithotryphy
Invitro fertilisation
Health Insurance: As a welfare measure, the entire staff of our University have been covered by health insurance.
