India's Top Tech Universities

The Indian techies are always in demand, courtesy to our various premier institutes, which provide world class education facilities and experienced faculty members. It seems that these institutes have undertaken the duty of developing technology experts to make the country proud. Also, these universities have worked hard to satisfy the growing needs for skilled and qualified professionals in every field of technology.

Besides education, these universities have supported in yielding global reputation and garner the Indian talent to meet and justify the growing demands of the industries and corporate sector, globally. The feature here discusses various Indian tech universities, which has an edge over others.

1. Indian Institutes of Technology

The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are the premier engineering and technology-oriented institutes. They are fifteen in number and all are independent from others. The top most among the IITs are IIT Chennai, Mumbai, Kanpur and Delhi. The selection procedure is called as IIT-JEE, which absorbs around 4,000 candidates each year.

The B.Tech degree from the institute is the most enrolled undergraduate course being offered in various streams but Dual Degrees like integrated (five-year) Master of Technology, Master of Science and Master of Arts degrees are also offered. About 15,500 undergraduates and 12,000 graduate students study in the IITs, in addition to research scholars.

2. Birla Institute of Technology & Science, Pilani (Rajasthan)

BITS, Pilani is a renowned science and technology institute of India with three campuses in the country and one campus in Dubai, UAE. It also has an extension centre at Bangalore. The institute is famous for its flexible curriculum and its admission procedure is called as BITSAT, which is quota free.

Founded in 1929, the premier institute absorbs about 4,000 students from all over the world. The total area covered by the institute is over 1,000 acres and offers a three-tier academic structure viz. Integrated First Degree, Higher Degree and Doctoral programs.

3. Anna University

Established in 1978 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, Anna University is an unitary type of institute that provides higher education in Engineering, Technology and Allied Sciences. It integrates four other technical institutes in the city. It was originally called as Perarignar Anna University of Technology (PAUT). In 2001, the Anna University was transformed into an affiliating university, which covers over 250 engineering colleges in the state.

Anna University has been producing over 65,000 engineering graduates every year. Also, the institute has registered over 3,800 Ph.D. scholars in various departments and other affiliated colleges. It also has four campuses viz. CEG, ACT and SAP in the main campus and MIT in Chromepet, which have departments of Engineering, Technology and Applied sciences.

World's top tech universities

According to the latest study for the evaluation of top tech universities all over the world, it is reported that the North American universities dominates the list. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has topped the list maintaining the last year's rank. Situated in Cambridge, it has five schools and over 34 academic departments.

California Institute of Technology (Caltech) is behind the list with the rank of tenth on the list. At No. 35, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology jumps four position compared to the last year
