In Tamil Nadu Open University, took initiatives to provide immediate employment opportunities in the rural areas especially to the rural women, widows, girl’s children without parents, urban poor and unemployed youths through Tamil Nadu Open University. 149 Community Colleges were established so far by her. These Community Colleges are offering job oriented Vocational Education Programmes and also placing the students in the relevant industries after internship. Tamil Nadu State Government has supported the initiatives of the Tamil Nadu Open University and sanctioned Rupees One Crore as scholarships to the Community College students. Other Open Universities in India would like to follow the Tamil Nadu Open University Community College model.
