Government Law College, Trichur/Thrissur is one of the prominent colleges in the field of law education in the state of Kerala and the institute was established in the year 1992. The institute is the fourth institution for law education working under the Government of Kerala and it is affiliated to the University of Calicut. The college was established due to the requirement of a law college felt by lawyers, intellectuals, educationists and other eminent personalities in the city of Trissur. The college produced its first batch of lawyers in the academic year 1993-94.

Government Law College is approved with an intake capacity of 100 students per year for this course and admission to this course is done based on the merit secured by the candidates in the entrance test conducted by the Government of Kerala’s Entrance Commissioner. For getting into this course, candidates must be graduates in any discipline from a recognized university.
Five-Year LLB Course:
Government Law College is approved with an intake capacity of 80 students per year for this course and for getting into this course, candidates must have completed their 10+2 from a recognized educational authority of any state or central government or any other equivalent qualification as recognized by the Bar Council of India. Candidates with pre-degree certification from the University of Kerala or other equivalent qualification are also eligible to apply. Candidates must have secured not less than 40% of marks in the qualifying examination and relaxation of 5% of marks is applicable to candidates under SC/ST category.
LL.M Course:
Admission capacity of Government Law College, Thrissur for this course is 10 students per year and the mode of selection is through entrance examination conducted by the Entrance Commissioner of the state of Kerala. Candidates with five-year or three-year LL. B from the same university to which the college is affiliated or from any other recognized university are eligible to apply for this PG course in law.
